Let Me Tell You About Webcomics: A New Postmodern Genre
by Paige Gelsimino
Webcomics also transcend the traditional idea of message or theme being central to the story, along with challenging those same messages and themes. Commonly, in other genres such as print comics, there are themes and an overall message to those stories while the webcomic takes these notions and turns them upside down. Webcomics don’t focus on a singular message, like many other works of literature. It expands to make a complex narrative which, instead of focusing in, stretches out to touch on many different themes, while also not playing into the widely-accepted ways of looking at said themes. Webcomics break the boundaries again and change these themes into something different, something unique to webcomics.
